Harris Teeter joins Kroger family in embracing Apple Pay

Ana sayfa / iOS

Harris Teeter, a grocery store chain owned by Kroger, has recently announced its acceptance of Apple Pay and other contactless payment methods at all of its over 250 locations. This decision marks a significant change in Kroger’s approach to payment options, as the company had previously been hesitant to adopt near field communication (NFC) technology.

Expanded payment options for customers

By embracing Apple Pay, Harris Teeter joins other Kroger-owned grocery store chains, such as Kroger, Fred Meyer, Ralphs, QFC, and King Soopers, which have already implemented contactless payment options in their stores. This move caters to the diverse preferences of customers by offering a range of payment methods. Apple Pay, in particular, is known for its convenience and security, allowing customers to tap their iPhone or Apple Watch at checkout for a seamless transaction.

While adopting Apple Pay and other contactless payment methods, Kroger continues to support its own payment service, Kroger Pay. This service requires customers to scan a QR code at checkout, allowing them to pay with a debit or credit card stored in the Kroger app. Despite the growing popularity of contactless payment methods, Kroger Pay remains an option for customers who prefer the company’s proprietary service.

Looking forward

Harris Teeter’s decision to accept Apple Pay highlights the increasing importance of contactless payment options in the retail industry. As consumer expectations continue to evolve, more companies are likely to follow Kroger’s lead in adopting services like Apple Pay, providing a more seamless and secure shopping experience for their customers.
